Russia's football clubs remain excluded from international competitions for the time being. The International Sport Court CAS refused on Tuesday the urgent application of the Russian Association against the sanctions of the European Football Union (UEFA) because of the criminal war against Ukraine. The exclusion of the clubs from the Europapokal persist, the CAS informed.
However, the arbitration procedure requested by Russia will continue, announced the CAS. About the objection against the exclusion of the national team of the play-offs to the World Cup in Qatar through the World Association FIFA is expected to be decided by the end of the week.
Russia had called the CAS a week ago with the demand to unlock the locks and to recall all teams in all competitions. Among other things, Spartak Moscow had been excluded from the Europa League, with opponents RB Leipzig already fixed as a quarter-finalist.
Above all, Russia's national team is concerned, which should have composed against Poland on 24 March in the World Cup play-offs. However, the country was excluded in response to invasion in Ukraine from all competitions. Opponents Poland had already announced to take in the play-offs in any case against Russia.
From the point of view of the association lying for the decision of FIFA and UEFA "no legal basis". The decision was hit "under the pressure" of the opposing associations, and in addition, one did not want to explain his own position.
