Double Fine is a US videogame developer founded in July 2000 by Tim Schafer after his retirement from Lucasarts. He started Double Fine along with the programmers David Dixon (Ocean of America, Capcom, Lucasarts) and Jonathan Menzies (Lucasarts) in what was once a Zueco store in San Francisco. After months of work on the demo of what would become psychonauts, a mixture of the developers who would work in Grim Fandango and other new employees were slowly induced. [1] The company is headquartered in San Francisco [2] and the name Double Fine is a reference to a sign on the Golden Gate Bridge that used to say Double Fine Zone ( double-fine area ) to warn the Drivers that fines in such an area were double that normal.
