Future self-published projects of PlatinumGames are not necessarily funded by crowdfunding - special - Video Peeling news, instructions, exemplary procedures, reviews and cultu
The Wonderful 101 was a special situation.
The first tour of PlatinumGames into the future of self-publishing was quite unexpected. She announced a crowdfunding project for reviving der wonderful 101, one of her niche games (more here). The project has already reached its original goal and exceeded the trademark of 1 million US dollars at the time of creation. So it seems successful. Obviously, however, it is more of an experiment than the norm, as the company is apparently not forced to regularly conduct crowdfunding.
In conversation with Eurogamer Lead Producer Atsushi Inaba said der wonderful 101 approach would not be the norm. It was a special case, and the Kickstarter it was more about ensuring that the interest was there to necessarily get money. Other self-published projects will not follow this path, but Inaba has not excluded crowdfunding again.
This is an original case - it's not so much the case we say we need money, said Inaba. It's more told, Hey, all come together and make this project reality.
When we go on, we do not need crowdfunding and do not have to do it again - this is just a special case. However, if there is a similar case in the future, in which crowdfunding makes sense, we will consider an option.
While Inaba does not explicitly say this, this is probably an important reason for this The wonderful 101 a renewed publication in this way also had to do so that the game was a notorious flop when it was originally released on Wii u. The developer has at least three further announcements on deck that must be revealed.
